It’s interesting to note that one can actually scribble out HATE and ends up with LOVE once mirrored or vice versa. Love and hate must have been interchangeably the same. Isn’t it?
Looking at the scriptures, Paul actually experienced both emotions waging war against each other.
In Romans 7:18 – 19 For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.
As you can see here, there are good things that Paul(the author of Romans) loves to do but he couldn’t. At the same time, there are things that he hates doing but he still keeps on doing.
This is actually what I call “When Love and Hate Collides” moment.
How many of us can relate to this?
You know… …those moments when you’ve decided to speak what’s encouraging but ended up criticizing. …those moments when you wanted to show you care but ended up looking indifferent. …those moments when you simply want to do good and obey God’s word and ended up missing it.
But what shall we do then? How do we resolve this collision of the heart?
Paul actually ended the chapter in verses 24 and 25 acknowledging what a sinful man He is and that only through Jesus can he be delivered from it.
What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Yes, it’s only through Jesus Christ but how can we tap into that deliverance Jesus has.
Paul added in Galatians 5:16-17 how the desires of our flesh contradicts that of the Spirit and that the only way not to gratify that is to walk by the Spirit.
16 So I say, WALK BY THE SPIRIT, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.
So, basically it’s a flesh and spirit battle and the one who wins is actually the one you FEED THE MOST.
Which one are you feeding lately?
Have you been too engrossed in the worldly affairs and forgot already your quiet moments with God?
